Mountain Meteorology Fund

Mountain Meteorology Fund

Funds an interdisciplinary research and educational program aimed at improving understanding and prediction of weather and climate processes in regions of complex terrain, with particular attention to ecological, water resource, and air quality issues facing the increasingly urbanized western United States.

The University of Utah Department of Atmospheric Sciences is the leading program of weather and climate related research and education in the Intermountain West and is recognized internationally for its expertise in cloud-climate interactions, mountain meteorology, climate physics and dynamics, weather and climate modeling, and tropical meteorology. Our research and teaching endeavors provide the knowledge and tools needed by society to address the challenges posed by hazardous weather and climate change in the 21st century.

Donations to our endowment and gift funds allow us to enhance our educational and research mission by providing funds for scholarships, student research, seminars, and our annual awards banquet. These donations are particularly important today as we are challenged by declining state funding and the increasing costs of providing state-of-the-art instruction. Endowed funds are invested, held in perpetuity, and provide a portion of their value each year for use as directed by the benefactor. Gift funds are available immediately for scholarships, student activities, and other needs. Surplus gift funds may be moved into endowments where they provide a long-term source of support for the department.
