Help us Defeat the ‘Silent Thief of Sight’: Support the Alan S. Crandall Center for Glaucoma Innovation

Glaucoma is one of the cruelest blinding diseases, nicknamed the ‘silent thief of sight.’
That’s because it strikes both young and old without warning: most people won’t know they have it until
they notice permanent vision loss. More than 80 million glaucoma patients worldwide must grapple
with a lifelong threat of blindness that has no cure and limited treatment options.

A collaborative team of the world’s top glaucoma researchers and physicians are working together at
the John A. Moran Eye Center’s Alan S. Crandall Center for Glaucoma Innovation to bring new hope to
glaucoma patients and their loved ones. Your donation will support the Crandall Center’s efforts to:

  • Find new ways to easily and quickly diagnose glaucoma, such as a simple blood test
  • Develop therapies that will protect the optic nerve, which carries visual information to the brain and is killed off by glaucoma
  • Better understand the genetics of glaucoma and explore its connections to other blinding
diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration
  • Develop new surgical devices and techniques to improve the sight-saving impacts of surgery
  • Create affordable and effective glaucoma care options for low-resource countries where the disease is prevalent

Internationally renowned clinician-scientist and innovator Iqbal “Ike” K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC, leads the
Crandall Center and has been named the most influential ophthalmologist in the field by The
Ophthalmologist magazine. He is widely known as the grandfather of micro-invasive glaucoma surgery
(MIGS) and an advocate for innovative surgical treatments that can save sight earlier for more patients.

With more than 112 million people projected to have glaucoma by 2040, the need for innovative
solutions has never been more urgent.

Your support will make a profound difference. By donating to the Crandall Center, you invest in a future
where glaucoma can no longer rob people of their vision. Thank you for partnering with us as we work
to accelerate research, expand access to care, and ultimately, change lives.
