Enhance Our Exceptional Student Experience

Enhance Our Exceptional Student Experience

“The right to rise, that is what makes the American experiment so exceptional.”

The words of Abraham Lincoln resonate at the University of Utah more than 150 years after he signed the Morrill Act — making a college education the norm, not the exception.

It starts with access and affordability.

We provide pathways for our students to reap the benefits of a world-class education.  By shining the spotlight on their talents, not their ability to pay, we ensure that our student body reflects the full spectrum of our increasingly diverse nation.

And it’s our job to make sure our students, a third of whom are the first in their families to attend college, succeed in every way.

How? By providing dynamic, interactive, real-world learning experiences.  By preparing them for the jobs of the future — many of which do not yet exist.

And by giving them the full support they need to succeed on campus, graduate on time, and embark on their chosen career.

Here’s How You Can Help

The following is a sampling of campaign priorities that will enhance our exceptional student experience:

  • Fund a scholarship to help attract a diverse, inclusive, high-performing student body from Utah, the nation, and the world.
  • Invest in real-world experiences that enrich learning, such as internships, study abroad, service opportunities, and undergraduate research.
  • Support student success initiatives, including summer bridge programs, mentoring, tutoring and advising, and enhanced career services.

Individual attention on a big campus

Transfer student Derek Young came to the U from a small town. Despite attending a university more than twice the size of his hometown, Derek was met with personalized attention. With the support of Tramaine Jones, a student success advocate, Derek had the opportunity to work in a world-class lab—something he never thought he’d be able to do.
